Feed

Feed for horses is very important. I recommend Safe Choice. Safe Choice

is excellent. Safe Choice is made for all life stages. With its added fat,

controlled starch formula, SafeChoice minimizes the risk of nutritionally

related problems that can result from high starch diets, while promoting

sound growth and excellent body condition. Without the risk of starch overload it delivers as much or more energy from digestible fibers and fat than oats. For most horses a scoop of Safe Choice is a great amount, for others they may need more or less.

Ulcers

For ulcers I highly recommend Ed and Martha Wright Oxy Max. Oxy Max is the best formula for ulcers because it treats back and front ulcers. You can also you aloe vera juice for a less expensive solution. This will help the horses not feel the acids in their stomach, but will not totally get rid of the ulcers. Whenever you load horses you should give them Ulcer Guard. Ulcer Guard will help them run their best and help prevent ulcers.

Grooming

I recommend you groom your horse daily. It is very important to groom them daily so their coat will shine and they do not get tangles.

Barrel Racing

Barrel Racing is my favorite thing to do on a horse. It is a speed event, the goal

is to get the fastest time. You have got to be a team with your horse. Your points

are extremely important at each barrel. There are four points at the first barrel

and three at the second and third barrel.

Poles

Another one of my favorite events is poles. Poles takes a great team. The object

of poles is also to get the fastest time. Here is a picture of the pattern of poles.

It involves running down, turning, weaving through six poles, weaving back up

through six poles, and then running back. It takes great coordination between

you and the horse.

Horse Pens

It is important that there are no holes in your horses turnouts. I recommend horse mesh on their pens. I recommend moving horses around in different pens so that there are always grass in their turnouts.

Sheds

Having sheds in your horses turnouts is excellent. We have a

Summer and a Winter turnout. The Winter turnout has sides on

all of the sides. On the Summer turnouts it does not have any

sides it only has a top so it is shady.

Magnetic Sheets

I also am a strong believer in magnetic sheets. It helps keep the circulation in their body before you run by pressing on acupuncture points. It relaxes them so you are ready to run when you arrive.

Halters

I recommend halters that do not have the knots in them.

Types of Horses

Their are many different types of horses. Two of the most popular kinds of horses are quarter horses and thoroughbreds. I think the most popular kind of horse for speed events are quarter horses. The reason they were named quarter horses was because they could out run other types of horses for the first quarter of a mile. That is the reason they are very good at some speed events like barrels because they can run so fast for the first quarter of a mile. Thoroughbreds are often used for english riding. They could out run quarter horses for longer distances. That is why they are often used in English for events such as Cross Country.

Bonding

For me the bond between my horse and I is one of the most important things about riding. When I ride I want my horse to love me and give his all. I want to be “dancing partners” with my horses all of the time. Many people believe they can do it by themselves, but the truth is you need to do it with your horse to the fullest.
